Here at Consett Infants we have created designated spaces to provide tailored therapeutic interventions for our children and families to access.
The first space we created was the S.N.U.G.G (Safe, Nurturing, Understanding, Growth and Guidance) established over the summer and we opened this in September 2019.
Following the success and impact of the SNUGG we wanted to create a larger space that could support a larger number of children following Covid lockdowns and address the many missed experiences and emotional and mental issue our children had faced.
The Sunbeam Room was developed over the summer of 2020 and we now have the capacity to work with any children who need support. We officially opened the doors in September 2020.
These intervention rooms allow us to enhance the interests of our children in rich new experiences including, drama, art, dance, mindfulness, cooking and singing. They also give our children tailored continuous holistic provision to support emotional well-being through interventions such as lego therapy, drawing and talking sessions, emotional regulation, nurture groups, peer mentoring and friendship groups. We employ a wellbeing teaching assistant who has specialised training to provide these intervention sessions.
Staff also have access to confidential wellbeing support and use the spaces to discuss worries or concerns with Mrs Graham and Mrs Richardson.
We can also facilitate supervised contact sessions for children to have access with parents who are under the social services umbrella in a safe familiar space with a range of resources and play equipment.
We offer one to one contracted counselling regulated with the BACP with our fully accredited Counsellor promoting growth and change from a wide range of presenting issues.
We also provide a place for parents and carers to meet with Mrs Richardson confidentially to discuss/sign post and action worries or difficulties our families and children may be experiencing.
This focus on wellbeing that we offer across all aspects of school life is unique and our families will benefit greatly from our wellbeing provisions for many years ahead.
